CAREER CAMPS

YouthForce Career Camps provide engaging, hands-on experiences led by industry professionals.

Teens from throughout central Wisconsin explore career options while actively engaging in real world activities.

Participants gain valuable insights about careers opportunities, employer expectations, personal interests, and education pathways, as well as connections to local employers and education institutions which can help them plan for their future. These Career Camps are free to Boys & Girls Club members. Teen membership is only $10 per year!!!

Aviation Career Camp hosted by the

Stevens Point Area Flying Club

Tuesday, June 18th


Certified Flying Instructor, Gary Olsen, will lead Aviation Career Camp participants through a fun day of exploration at the Stevens Point Municipal Airport; including, principles of flights, checking out a plane (and possibly jet!), pre-flight preparations, and career opportunities. Weather permitting, participants will end the day with a short flight around the Stevens Point area.


Agenda:

  • 8:30 AM - Meet at GPS Center
  • 8:45 AM - Leave for Stevens Point Airport
  • 9:00 AM - Introductions
  • Students will be given a project folder and introduced to the instructor
  • 9:30 AM - Basics of Aviation
  • History of aviation, concepts of flight, types of planes, etc.
  • 10:30 AM - Show & Tell
  • Learn about plane, look at controls, sit in pilot seat
  • 11:45 AM - Lunch break
  •  12:30 PM - Flight Experiences
  • Short flights around Stevens Point area & (if available) look at jet and hangar
  • 2:30 PM - Closing
  • 3:00 PM - Return to GPS Center

Machining Camp hosted by Pointe Precision

Thursday, July 11th


Participants work with engineers, project planners, and machinists to complete hands-on take-home projects including a set of aluminum dice and a personalized laser engraved key fab. This Camp is held at the state-of-the-art Pointe Precision facility in Plover. Participants use hands tools, power saws, laser engraving machine, and robotic machining equipment, as well as, get an introduction to the design and manufacturing planning process.


Agenda:

  • 8:30 AM - Meet at GPS Center
  • 8:45 AM - Leave for Pointe Precision in Plover
  • 9:00 AM - Introductions
  • 9:30 AM - Stock selection and band sawing material.
  • 10:00 AM - Part Modeling- Creating a print and how we develop a part as we prepare to machine it
  • 10:45 AM - Programming- and creating the process to machine the parts
  •  11:30 AM - Tool Presetting- Fixturing and tooling, and capturing the tool offsets.
  • 12:00 PM - Lunch provided
  • 12:30 PM - Set-up process
  • The process of setting up the machine
  • 1:00 PM - Machining Parts/Lasermarking
  • Lasermarker keychain fabs, use machines to create aluminum dice
  • 1:30 PM - Closing discussion and discuss classes available at Junior High and High School plus the Youth apprenticeship and Registered Apprenticeship programs
  • 2:00 PM - Return to GPS Center

Business Shark Camp

Tuesday, July 30th


Business Shark Camp a one-day immersive program where students practice building a business from the ground up (kind of like the tv show Shark Tank). Students come up with a full business plan including creating a new product, building a prototype, creating a marketing plan, and forming a budget. Students gain a better understanding of business principles, entrepreneurship, career opportunities in Wisconsin, and the important role businesses play in our communities.


Agenda:

  • 8:45 AM - Meet at Teen Center (941 Michigan Ave.)
  • 9:00-2:00 – Professional facilitators create small groups & lead participants in fun activities
  • Come up with a product idea that will wow the judges
  • Develop a business plan
  • Build a prototype of the product
  • Create a marketing plan
  • Form a budget and financial projection
  • Team presents the idea in front of business judges
  • Prize Winners and Wrap Up
  • 2:00 PM - End of Camp - Parent/Guardian pick up

Community Responders Career Camp

Hosted by Plover Fire, Police, & EMS

Tuesday & Wednesday, August 6th & 7th


Have you heard of the popular Citizens Academy held for adults each fall? This Community Responders Career Camp is a mini-version of that to introduce participants to the world of firefighters, police, and EMS workers. Participants learn directly from professionals in those fields including hands-on activities and experiences. Check out the specialized equipment, vehicles, and skills they use every day to respond to emergencies and incidents happening throughout our community.


Agenda – August 6th - Fire

  • 8:30am Meet at GPS Center
  • 8:45am Leave for Village of Plover Municipal Building
  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM – Hands-on Activities
  •  Tour of Plover Fire Department
  •  Introduction to firefighter and related careers
  •  Learn about specialized equipment, vehicles, and skills
  •  Participate in hands-on demonstrations and activities
  • 12:00 PM - Lunch
  • 1:00 PM - Return to GPS Center

Farmer-for-a-Day Camp

Wednesday, August 21st

Farming - or more accurately the Agriculture Industry - involves a huge diversity of careers ranging from traditional farming and ranching to marketing specialists, technology experts (like using drones to check crops), sales, transportation, processing, public relations... all the way to your table or restaurants featuring locally grown food.


This Camp will involve working directly with local experts representing several career paths available right here in central Wisconsin.
