Club Creates

Club Creates is an afterschool program developed by the BGC to increase equitable access to high-quality arts experiences for youth in our community by bringing local professional artists into the Club as Visiting Artists to share their skills and craft with Club members. By increasing access to high-quality arts experiences, Club Creates provides youth opportunities for artistic skills development, mastery, and creative expression while supporting positive long-term outcomes.

Club Creates Programming will be delivered at each of following centers. For more information and to register, click on the links below.

Programing is offered for all ages and takes place during the school year (September-May) meeting once a week for six weeks.

  • Description:
  • Cooperative Dance Creation with visiting artists Angie Nyquist and Learn and Dancers from Love It Dance Studio. Ms. Angie's inspiration PLUS BGC Members ideas and cooperative attitude EQUALS a NEW dance creation every week.
  • Angie Nyquist:
  • From her first tap class at age four through UW-Stevens Point and right up until the present, Angie Nyquist always includes dance as part of her life. With over 25 years of experience teaching dance to children, her programs have showcased at Minnesota Children’s Museum, Central Wisconsin Children’s Museum, Royal Family Kids Camp and with home-school groups. Her past work with Point Dance Ensemble in collaboration with Arts for All Wisconsin includes works titled, “About Bev,” (2018) “Free to Be Me,” (2018) and “Laura” (2019) all showcasing dancers with disabilities. Partnering with ARTS for ALL Wisconsin and the Children’s Long-Term Support Waiver, Angie has brought dance into the lives of children with disabilities for 20 years. Owner of Learn & Love It Dance Classes, Angie continues to bring her love for children and dance together by offering group classes in Stevens Point and Almond, WI.

  • Puppets Take the Stage: Voice of Spring!
  • Date: Wednesdays, 5:15-6:00 pm 3/26, 4/2, 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, and 4/30
  • Performance Thursday, 5/1 at area Residence Home
  • Limit of 10-15 Participants
  • Cost: $10 per program
  • Fees can be waived for teens who qualify for free/reduced priced lunch
  • Description:
  • Participants will make moving mouth puppets (Muppet style) in addition to some giant puppets to bring a celebration of Spring to the audience. Birds, flowers, butterflies, bees! The first two weeks students create mouth puppets (Muppet style); Second two weeks students create rod puppets of butterflies, dragonflies, bees with the final two weeks the group works together to create a large Paper-Mache puppet. Any student who has participated in the workshop will be able to perform in the final performance. 
  • Puppetry brings the magic of theater, helping us to discover and understand our relationship though our world and with others. Puppetry is a powerful, life-changing experience for all ages that offers a doorway to new-found confidence and provides a creative way to share. 
  • Pam Corcoran is a puppeteer who enjoys telling stories. Her goal is for participants to find new ways to share their unique exploration through written word, either their own, or by of others. Pam has shared her love for Puppetry through Arts for All, Wisconsin for over 25 years. She was first inspired to be a puppeteer from a course she took at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and her most recent work is inspired from a workshop attended in Prague (2019) that focused on building and performing with Czech rod marionettes.

  • Grade: 3rd-6th grade Club members
  • Cost: $10 per program

  • Description:
  • Club Creates Visiting Artists Zachary Baldus shares juggling techniques with Boys and Girls Club Members. Each session provides the opportunity for BGC members to explore basic juggling, progressing from perfect tosses with two-ball into skills for a cascade juggling pattern.   


Request for Proposals

Boys & Girls Club  of Portage County is requesting proposals from local artists interested in designing and delivering a high-quality, multi-session creative experience for youth.


Selected artists will be independently contracted as Visiting Artists for BGC’s Club Creates program and be responsible for a total of six (6) hours of program delivery during the 2023-2024 school year.


BGC welcomes artists of all art forms – including visual, performing, and digital artists – to serve as Visiting Artists in Club Creates.
