Portage County Truancy Abatement Program

The Portage County Truancy Abatement Program (TAP) is a collaborative program between the Boys and Girls Club of Portage County, the Stevens Point Area School District, Portage County Human Services and the Portage County Court System. Students are referred to the Court by the school district when they meet the criteria for Habitual Truancy and when school-led interventions have been unsuccessful in reducing the students’ truancy.

Peer Court

The Peer Court program is conducted through the Truancy program. Peer Court is an alternative program to the traditional juvenile justice system that offers eligible youth (first-time offenders) an opportunity to receive meaningful consequences from a panel of their peers. This experience provides an alternative to appearing in juvenile court, paying a fine, and having a conviction on record.
