2022 Boys & Girls Club of Portage County Youth of the Year

Ethan Richter

Mar 11, 2022

We're proud to announce Ethan Richter as our 2022 Boys & Girls Club of Portage County Youth of the Year!

Ethan is a SPASH Sophomore who has come a long way since he first joined the club 10 years ago. In his teenage years, he initially came across as quiet and respectful. Many staff members were appreciative of his consistent participation and assistance with programs. Ethan spoke respectfully to everyone he interacted with. The Club offered Ethan a spot on Junior Staff when they noticed his dedication, and he has volunteered about 100 hours of his time at the Teen Center. Staff at the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County felt he deserved recognition, and he was awarded the Junior Youth of the Year Award in 2018.

Today, Ethan has grown out of this shell and has "the confidence and pride to continue planning fun activities for members of the club". It was clear he was gaining key leadership skills throughout his time volunteering. He was voted unanimously to be the leader of the Keystone Comrades Club by its members. Through the Keystone Club, he's also able to take this activity planning into the community and volunteer his time there. Ethan and the Keystone Comrades Club have been able to fundraise over $500 for the food pantry they built in front of the Berard Center, as well as organize teens together for a weekly lemonade stand and car wash. He is "one of the reasons teen programming is going so well" and we are all extremely proud of the journey he's had so far with us.

To celebrate this achievement, Ethan will spend time playing basketball against select staff, connecting virtually with a former staff member who was influential during Ethan’s time at the Club, enjoying an ice cream sundae bar, and going out for lunch to his favorite local restaurant with Club staff.

Ethan will compete in the state competition today (Friday, March 11th, 2022)! At this event, those nominated from the other Clubs in Wisconsin will compete virtually and be judged by a panel of influential state leaders to vie for the title of Wisconsin’s Youth of the Year.

Good luck at the competition, Ethan!!
