Visit from Maui Boys & Girls Club

The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County receives a special visit from Maui Boys & Girls Club

Sep 08, 2022

After more than a year of building connections through conversation, Maui County and Stevens Point mayors Mike Victorino and Mike Wiza formalized a connection between their communities in hopes of building beneficial relationships for years to come.
While on their visit to Stevens Point, both mayors signed a proclamation declaring January as Maui-Stevens Point Connected Communities Month, which will become an annual celebration. Sentry Insurance laid the foundation for the proclamation in advance of the 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Sentry coordinated a tour of our community for the Maui guests, and we were lucky enough to be one of the stops. As we greeted them, members gave them a "Wisconsin Welcome" as they entered our Berard Center with a special banner they made full of things Wisconsin is known for on it.
Our members showed them how to play carpet ball and learned Hawaiian dances and songs.
Our Maui guests enjoyed King Cone ice cream with either Point Rootbeer or Tapped maple syrup. They were able to see our new mural in the art room and became honorary Club members.
It was a special experience for both our members and staff as well as for our guests!
