Boys & Girls Club Kicks Off Work on New Facility

Apr 07, 2022

Journalist Chris Mueller for the Stevens Point Journal wrote the following article during the construction of our current building, the Berard Center, in 2015.

Stevens Point – "In bright yellow hardhats, a group of kids stuck colorful plastic shovels into the freshly turned ground."

"The kids were with the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County, which held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for a new 16,000-square-foot youth center at 2442 Sims Ave. The new facility, to be located between P.J. Jacobs Junior High School and the former Mid-state Technical College building, will replace the organization's teen center on Ellis Street."

"The new location will have more room than the current facility for activities and provide students with spaces for art, technology, sports, recreation, fitness, and homework. The work is expected to be completed by October."

"The construction of the new facility will cost about $2.1 million."

After seven years of helping children, the Berard Center is proud to stay standing, and we hope to continue our mission for as long as possible.
