Why do we serve meals?

Approximately 55% of the youth we serve qualify for the free and reduced-price school lunch program.

The absence of the school meal program during the summer months can result in food insecurity for youth and families who rely on this program during the school year.

Over one-third (36%) of Club members at our rural Club sites come from households that fall below the ALICE threshold, representing those who make more than the federal poverty level but less than the calculated survival budget for the community.

By providing free, healthy dinners to their children, BGC can substantially reduce household expenses for these families. This financial relief will allow families to allocate funds to other essential needs, such as utilities, housing, or healthcare.
